Recap
Is there such thing as too much football?
Pana FC took on Footy Addicts both in search of a well-needed win to restore their hopes in this year’s 7-a-side South London League.
Pana FC took the initiative and took control of the game creating good passages and build up from the back. You wouldn’t believe us if we said for the first 20 mins, there were goals from the number of chances both sides had during this game. Move after move, shot after shot, Pana FC sere unable to break the deadlock until some good passages of play which forced a mistake from Footy Addict’s defender which led to JJ smashing home from close range to make it 1-0.
Footy Addicts were dangerous throughout with their one-touch counter attacking football which was pleasing on the eye. The pundits would claim this long ball football is unattractive but when applied correctly, it can be useful weapon. This proved to be the tale as every long ball which turned the midfielders showed the cracks in their side as they did not show the work rate to support their 2 centre backs and often found themselves 3 vs 2 situations and were fortunate to not leak more goals than they did.
On the stroke of half-time, Footy Addicts equalised and it was all to play for!
Smash and Grab!
The second half came into life as we had dubious calls from the referee which gave a penalty for a handball which from the footage, seemed very harsh. We all were wondering how much the ref was being paid in this fixture!
Karma and manifestation led to a missed penalty and the momentum swung in Footy Addict’s favour and chance after chance, long ball after long ball, the directness of their play prevailed and found themselves in front.
A moment of pure brilliance which broke someone’s ankles and composure to create the goal and even better composure to finish it off meant that with 5 minutes to go, we were looking at the South London League’s first draw.
If its not broken, don’t fix it
Footy Addicts dug deep at times and soaked up the pressure throughout the match, countered well and proved dangerous. So when the final long ball was distributed and a poor clearance was met with the cleanest of left footed strikes, the ball whistled past the keeper with seconds left, Streatham Vale erupted!
Pana FC will rue their missed chances and on another day, with better work rate from their midfielders when they didn’t have the ball, the result could have been more comfortable but instead go home licking their wounds to yet another defeat and look to not have any answers right now.
Footy Addicts are elated to have their first win and look to build on this for the forthcoming fixtures.
