Season 9 of the South London League delivered drama, rivalry, upsets, and unforgettable moments from start to finish.
The biggest storyline of the season came before a ball was even kicked—four key players from four-time champions Global (Kierz, Tommy, Kush, and Franco) broke away to form a brand-new side: Harrow Sports. Their arrival shook the league’s balance of power and set the stage for one of the most competitive seasons in SLL history.
Newcomers Don’t Rise 2 It also entered the fray, choosing perhaps the toughest time to join as the league reached peak quality across the board. Carpet, the reigning champions, picked up where they left off with a near-perfect regular season, winning 8 of 9 games and establishing themselves as clear favourites heading into the playoffs.
The long-awaited return of Malcolm X, former two-time SLL champions, was another major headline. However, their comeback didn’t go to plan—they quickly realised the league had evolved during their four-season absence, and they struggled to keep pace.
El Rafico started brightly but faded badly, finishing 8th after defeats to all the top sides. Meanwhile, Global, battle-tested and experienced, delivered clutch performances—regularly coming from behind to secure key wins.
Elsewhere, Luggs and Don’t Rise 2 It struggled to find form. La Pulga looked like early title contenders but were hampered by injuries and inconsistent availability, leading to dropped points that cost them momentum.
The top-four race went down to the final gameweek with Harrow, Malcolm X, and La Pulga all in contention. Harrow and La Pulga held their nerve, securing vital wins to clinch playoff spots, leaving Malcolm X on the outside looking in.
In the SLL Vase, Malcolm X faced rivals El Rafico in a local derby final but were outclassed, falling to a heavy 4-0 defeat. Levels, who had quietly improved all season and added several key players, edged a rejuvenated Tippy to reach the final.
The SLL Vase Final was a historic one—El Rafico, the league’s oldest team without silverware, put on a masterclass, defeating Levels 7-2 and finally lifting their first trophy in style.
The Champions Cup playoffs brought even more fireworks. Harrow caused the shock of the season, beating top-seeded Carpet 3-2. Global, meanwhile, got revenge on La Pulga for their regular season defeat, booking their spot in yet another final.
In a blockbuster showdown, Global vs. Harrow—brothers turned rivals—faced off for the ultimate prize. It was an end-to-end classic filled with momentum swings, technical brilliance, and fierce intensity. In the end, Global’s experience proved decisive. They were clinical in the key moments and edged Harrow 6-4 in a thriller, claiming their fifth trophy in five seasons—an incredible run of dominance that now includes four league titles and an SLL Vase.
Season 9 had it all—legacy-defining moments, new rivalries, and underdog triumphs. A season truly worth remembering.

Golden boot | Kierz – 18 (Harrow Sports)

Season 8 of the South London League delivered pure chaos, class, and unforgettable moments — a true SLL classic.
We saw the introduction of Bloodline FC, who made an immediate impact, and the long-awaited return of La Pulga, last seen as runners-up in Season 4. The stage was set, and the football didn’t disappoint.
With six teams battling for top four on the final day, the tension was sky-high. El Rafico, sitting in second going into the final game, collapsed 3-0 to Bloodline and tumbled into the SLL Vase. Just when we thought the drama was over, Global suffered the biggest upset in league history, falling to underdogs Tippy Athletic, and joining El Rafico in the Vase.
At the top end, Carpet FC and La Pulga flexed all season, showing elite consistency and flair. Levels, after a shaky start, clawed their way back with grit and resilience, securing a spot in the top 4 late on. Bloodline, the new kids on the block, proved they belong by locking in that final top 4 spot. 🔒
The semi-finals were one-sided, with Carpet and La Pulga cruising through. It all built up to a blockbuster final, a clash of titans. After an intense battle that finished all square, it went to penalties, where the nerves kicked in and history was made. Carpet the eventual winners of a day that will live with the legends when it is all said and done.
Season 8 will be remembered for its unpredictability, wild final day, and the return of a South London powerhouse. The bar has officially been raised.

Season 7 saw the South London League introduce a new format to the competition. 9 teams, 2 trophies up for grabs – every team plays each other one and the top 4 will go into a playoff format with a one-legged semi final and final to determine the winner of the SLL Champions Cup. 5th to 8th will also be competing for the SLL Vase with the same playoff format.
While we saw Reggae Boyz exit the league, they formed a coalition with South London Ultraz and looked set to take the league by storm winning their first game against newly joined Levels FC. However, the gelling period just wouldn’t stick and found them taking heavy losses to Global, Tippy and Carpet.
Carpet FC, and Levels FC joined and showed the league they are here to compete for honours and challenge Global who were going for the 3peat and create history.
On the other end of the table, El Rafico continued their poor end to the season in S6 and only managed 1 win in 8 games. Luggs Athletic made some signings and boosted their attacking prowess almost getting into top 4. They will regret not starting the season strong.
Playoffs saw Carpet take on Levels and with a 1-1 draw, Carpet by right of the higher league position saw themselves in the final to take on Global for the Champions Cup. Global carried their rich vein of form from S6, remained unbeaten as did Carpet FC so we were in for a blockbuster clash! Global ran out deserved winners with Brandy putting in a MOTM performance.
Luggs Athletic got a good return on their investment winning the SLL Vase with their new marquee signing, P Rose, being the difference maker running out 7-2 winners versus Tippy Athletic.

Season 6 saw calm after the Season 5 and we had a blockbuster of clubs enter the league. 2 time champion Reggae Boyz made their return after a 2 season break, South London Ultraz and Tippy Atletic entered their maiden season with the South London League.
Reggae Boyz were met with a rude awakening in their first three games and suffered heavy defeats against M Boys and Global, while also losing to El Rafico after leading 3-0. However, once they were settled they became an absolute problem for the league and caused much disruption at the top of the table.
South London Ultraz set the league on fire bringing flair that you’d only see on a beach in Sao Paulo and announced themselves as title contenders early on in the season. Global continued their strong finish to Season 5 after being declared champions and were looking to go back to back like Malcolm X and Reggae Boyz…
And what a season to remember! Global won 11 out of their first 11 games with history on the cards being the first team to win all 12 games. However, South London Ultraz came to upset proceedings and pulled out one of their best performances of the season and winning the game 5-3. It doesn’t take away from the fact that Global ended the season with the most goals and biggest goal difference of any club in a season. Total domination for Global but more woes for Luggs and M Boys with seasons to forget.
El Rafico ended the season on a sour note after being dubbed the ‘Comeback Kings’ earlier on in the season finishing 5th place after their 2nd place finish in Season 5. Tippy announced themselves as a hard to beat team and were able to conjure up enough wins to finish in a respectable 4th place in their maiden season while Reggae Boyz had a strong finish to make up 3rd.

Season 5 saw turbulence and became almost a last man standing match. Title favourites Malcolm X and league challengers Sizzley saw themselves exit the league early due to extenuating circumstances and with Atletico Londres also exiting early, left the league with four teams battling for honours midway through the season. At one point, M Boys, Global and El Rafico were in the hunt for their very first league title!
Global were seen as heavy favourites with the SLL media speculating where their sources are coming with all of their transfers. The ever-present Lewis for El Rafico, Kiarn and Tywun from the exciting young Sizzley, all were dubbing Global jerseys in Season 5. Global were not the only team making transfers… El Rafico heavily recruited after their poor showing in Season 4 and were looking to make amends and Luggs Athletic also bolstered their squad. M Boys stuck with their homegrown talent and looked to build to become more consistent.
But as predicted, Global came out worthy winners of Season 5 dominating their remaining 4 fixtures and won their first South London League title!
Player of the Season | Jordan S (Global)
Golden Boot | Kiarn (Global) – 11 goals

When you thought the league wouldn’t be the same without Reggae Boyz… the SLL welcomed La Pulga! They entered the league like they were Reggae Boyz reborn and provided heavy scorelines against every team the first half of the season and handed Malcolm X their first loss of their South London League reign.
Once the Christmas break was over and teams returned revitalised, La Pulga started to trip under pressure and Malcolm X solved their first half of the season woes picking up wins , dominating teams and showing a defensive masterclass every game. The final game of the season saw La Pulga face Malcolm X with a winner takes all scenario. Malcolm X were defensively ruthless, showed they can match La Pulga at their own game and showed a ruthlessness that La Pulga lacked running away 4-2 winners and become back to back champions!
Player of the season | Adam (La Pulga)
Golden boot | Hus (Global) – 17 goals

With the league making noise around South London, it was only a matter of time till an injection of teams entering the league could match Reggae Boyz. The SLL introduced Claire Fontaine, Global, Malcolm X and M Boys. The levels had risen and as an indicator, SRC, El Rafico and Reggae Boyz, all once title challengers of the South London League became mid-table or relegation battlers in Season 3.
We had a 3 team title race at one point with Claire Fontaine, Global and Malcolm X and became a battle of which team could hold their nerve when the going gets tough. It proved too much for Claire Fontaine and Global. Malcolm X ran away with the league and won by 7 points marking the end of the Reggae Boyz dynasty. Reggae Boyz decided to take a break from the league… The SLL awaits for their return!
Player of the season | Amun (Malcolm X)
Golden boot | Hus (Claire Fontaine) – 21 goals

Reggae Boyz became back to back champions of the South London League! We were blessed with a title deciding match in the final game of the season where Pana FC had to beat Reggae Boyz to win their potentially first league title. Pana FC came close earlier on in the season with a great effective counter attacking game and were just prevented the 3 points versus Reggae Boyz with a last second equaliser from Reggae Boyz but in the final encounter of the season, there was only ever going to be one winner…
Reggae Boyz showed their true selves and ran away 4-2 winners showing how dominating the ball in all areas of the game is the key to win games. Incredibly, Pana FC ended 3rd in the league as although SRC were not in the title race on the final game of the season, they achieved enough points to overtake Pana FC on the final game of the season.
Player of the season | Melz (Reggae Boyz)
Golden boot | Ricardo (Reggae Boyz) – 11 goals

Reggae Boyz took the league by storm in the South London Leagues inaugural season with no close contenders to truly battle with.
