Recap
Top of the Table clash!
Reggae Boyz were up against their title contenders, El Rafico, in this week’s fixture at the South London League in Streatham Vale.
The highly anticipated clash brought along a crowd expecting a closely fought contest. Reggae Boyz have took the league by storm up until this point with their togetherness and ball-dominant play while El Rafico’s high energy pressure game being rewarded with 2 wins out of 2 games so far.
The match started in typical Reggae Boyz fashion and dominated the ball in the first 10 mins. El Rafico looked disorganised and showed lack of confidence on and off the ball where they were unable to get their pressing game and on the ball, were ineffective. Reggae Boyz tested the keeper early on with the 3 or 4 early chances only to be denied by the keeper.
El Rafico showed moments of quality with their midfielder picking up the ball in their own half and driving at Reggae Boyz only to be denied by the post. Glimpses of quality did show in the early parts of the game with their direct approach when winning the ball back but ultimately, these were half chances and never truly tested the keeper.
The collapse
They say pressure makes diamonds but in this case, pressure made mistakes and goals as Reggae Boyz were able to capitalise on a period of pure dominance with 4 goals. El Rafico woke up and started to implement their game plan and started to win the midfield battle for a brief period and threatened Reggae Boyz with shots hitting the post, forcing saves but only managed to be rewarded with the one goal.
More of the same in the second half
Reggae Boyz came out again and dominated the ball picking off single press merchants that were not followed by El Rafico’s teammates and were ripped apart with some brilliant team goals as well as some individual class from their striker who was a threat the entire game.
A consolation goal at the end meant that the match ended 7-2 and El Rafico leave shocked as to how they performed. Reggae Boyz are brewing in confidence with aims to go undefeated.
Who can stop them?
