Recap

SRC show improvement…

SRC faced Footy Addicts in their second fixture of the South London League to make amends for their defeat against El Rafico in the opening round. Footy Addicts came into this fixture off the back of a defeat against the same opponent, El Rafico and were keen to learn their lessons being a newly formed team.

The match started brightly with SRC asserting early dominance and tested the keeper early on only to be denied by some luck and good goalkeeping from Footy Addicts. It did not take long till the cracks were there for all to see and Footy Addicts showed a lack of togetherness which opened up an opportunity for Marcus to capitalise off the back of a dubious decision to let play on from a debatable foul.

From this point onwards, it looked like a total collapse and Footy Addicts were showing signs of a hangover from their first defeat. Some sloppy possession from Footy Addicts led to more goals, goals and… more goals. By half-time, SRC were 5-0 up at the break.

You could argue Footy Addicts were unfortunate to not claw back the deficit with some goals of their own, but were unable to capitalise on half chances and their striker rushing shots and not being composed enough in the final third meant that SRC came off unscathed.

Footy Addicts bounce back.

Footy Addicts started the second half with an energy which was missed in the first half and applied pressure, winning the ball back in dangerous areas and were able to claw 2 goals back to make it 5-2. However, once SRC rode the storm, again reasserted their dominance and capitalised on a lacklustre team display by Footy Addicts and added insult to injury by scoring more goals, goals… and more goals.

Poor striking or poor goalkeeping?

The match was interesting as if you took goals out of the equation, you would not have guessed the scoreline was 9-3 at full time. Footy Addicts are sure to have their resolve and togetherness tested if they are to make inroads in the South London League and have a couple of weeks to reset and go again versus SRC for a potential revenge tour.
