Derby Day

Pana FC faced El Rafico in a local derby which drew a good crowd and certainly added to the occasion! We had it all – handbags, strong challenges throughout and absolute screamers to cap off an entertaining match. The 7-a-side South London League truly came to life this week!

El Rafico took the initiative and implemented their pressing game which has been seen throughout the season and Pana FC struggled to contain or manage with clear solutions. Against the run of play, Pana FC found themselves in front and were able to carve opportunities of their own on the counter but El Rafico remained composed and poised, with an excellent Kevin De Bruyne like finish to make the game level at half-time.

The second half is where the game truly opened up. El Rafico’s pressure and fitness showed as they were able to maintain the tempo whereas Pana FC struggled to contain and ultimately broke down with goals from Trelli, Lance and Zim to finish the game off 4-1.

This match is certainly one to watch as some of the goals are worthy enough for the Puskas award if you ask me!

the rematch

Footy Addicts faced SRC in the return fixture and were looking to make amends from their previous loss where they were on the receiving end of a 9-3 demolition at the hands of SRC.

The game was a close affiar with neither team really taking the game by it’s horns and driving their team forward. With SRC dominating the earlier passages of play, they found themselves 2-0 up with a strong header from a corner and a sublime solo effort.

Footy Addicts fought hard and managed to get themselves level in the second half at 2-2 with plenty of time to go.

However, it wasn’t long till their strikers caught hot again an absolute worldie which gave the keeper no chance gave them the lead. Footy Addicts were unable to find another gear to get back in the game and SRC managed to withhold any threats to run out 3-2 winners and progress up the league table.
